IN MEMORIAM ANA-KARINA SCHNEIDER
Ana-Karina Schneider was an excellent scholar of English language, literature, and cultures. More importantly, she was a diplomat. She was eager to travel to other institutions, immerse herself in other cultures, and make new friends. She taught by example that to be a good scholar, one must be observant and friendly, and that there is more to learn about books from people than the other way round.
This was evident in the way that she listened to her own students at Lucian Blaga University (Sibiu), to visiting theatre practitioners at the famed Sibiu International Theatre Festival, and in her perceptive, critical, and always collegial and supportive editing of ABC Journal.
The Irish poet Eavan Boland wrote in her bereavement of “holding, as if my hand could store it, an ornament of amber,” a gift from the person she had lost. We all derive so much shining amber from Ana-Karina’s writing, teaching, and time on Earth.
